Ice Climbing Conditions — November 24 update

The last 10 days have been reasonably cold, and Gaustatoppfossen is now in pretty good shape—though you should still expect wet conditions. Lower-elevation areas need a bit more sustained cold to really form; I’d guess another week or so with temperatures well below 0°C. Spots like Krokan and Svadde usually come in early, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on them through this week and next.

The forecast shows a few milder days toward next weekend, with some snow on the way as well. That’s actually helpful: fresh snow encourages water flow above the routes, which in turn builds more ice over time.

Have a look at these two photos from the Svaddefossen area.
